Getting ready for camp, part 2 /

Micah survived his week away at Ockanickon Count Reservation with his Boy Scout troop.  Due to my working the Saturday when camp was over, I missed going to pick him up.  He survived and actually seemed to enjoy him self; he had no voice for several days after returning because he was constantly talking, shouting, making noise.   He did some sort of extra work and earned a patch called the Ajapeu Award - still waiting to find out what it means.  Most surprising is he did extra work.

This past week we've all been off, from work, from being a CIT, from camp and we spent the first part of the week in Mantoloking at the beach with Steve's family.  Yesterday we spent the afternoon and evening with Jillian and Mary Cash to celebrate Micah's and Jillian's adoptions - the 10th anniversary.  The actual date of the adoptions was earlier this month, we celebrated on the 10th anniversary of the day we returned home from on the non-stop from Hong Kong to Newark.

And now we pack up once again.  Micah is going to the Rodney Scout Reservation in North East, Maryland.  900 acres on the upper Chesapeake, we will be taking his bicycle along because to cover the distance between the merit badge areas, campers bike.  Micah will be working on five merit badges while at Rodney:  Mammal Signs, Fishing, Rifle Shooting, Archery and Signs, Signals and Codes.  So at the fall Court of Honor, he'll get those plus the Art, Swimming and Fingerprinting that he earned at Ockanickon.

The SPL (senior patrol leader, i.e. one of the boys in the troop who is doing this as a part of demonstrating leadership for his rank advancement) for this week of camp called a shake-down for this trip, meaning that we have to bring Micah's bag at 10 am on Saturday to make sure he's properly packed.  I am somewhat beyond annoyed.  I packed for Ockanickon, Micah survived and wanted for nothing, I don't need some teenager going through my son's bag checking my work, particularly since when I get everything in, practically no one on this planet will get it back to where I had everything - and when I'm packing, I am showing Micah where it's all going.

Next on my list of gripes and annoyances is if it takes two hours to check in for Rodney like there was at Ockanickon, I'm going to lose it.
